Story
Around 10500 people in UK suffer from Cystic Fibrosis with 1 in 25 people carrying the faulty gene.
My girlfriend Kirsty has Cystic Fibrosis and recently we found out that I am also a carrier of the faulty gene and we will require pre-implantation IVF treatment when the time comes.
Living with Cystic Fibrosis Kirsty has daily mental and physical battles whilst ensuring she takes her numerous tablets, nebuliser treatments and performs breathing exercises. She does all this whilst also completing the flexible probationer route in to music teaching and is, in my opinion, the definition of an inspiration.
Òran, the Cairn Terrier, joined the Nelson and Young clan just over a year ago with the aim of helping Kirsty with these mental and physical challenges and we haven't looked back as Kirsty now has a lung function that doctors are happy with should we decide to start a more human family.
Having successfully conquered the local summits of Tomtain and Meikle Bin when Òran reached 1 year old we decided to up the challenge and take on Ben Lomond. Having caught the walking bug we took on the Arrochar Alps with the most recent walk of Beinn Bhuidhe completing the set.
Rising to the challenge with ease Òran is now going attempt to bag the Scottish Munros, or at least the 276 he has left, in 38 months (10500 divided by 276) as of April 2017 to raise awareness and hopefully money for the Cystic Fibrosis trust.
