Story
It’s a 24hr Race around a 10km (6.22mile) course. The aim is to do as many laps as possible within the 24hrs.There is 12 hours of Daylight, and 12 Hours in the Dark.
Lou has previously taken part in this Race in 2017, when she managed 11 Laps ( 68 miles), and in 2019 10 laps ( 62 miles).
Lou is going into this race with injuries. She has Achilles Tendonitis in her Left leg, and a Trapped Nerve in her right leg. She has been to see her Sports Masseur, and she has patched her up as best she can.
There will be a tent in the start / finish area, which Lou will pop back to after each lap to refuel, before heading out again. Lou will not sleep, but just keep going as long as she can.
At night the course is pitch black, and the runners wear body torches to light the way, these can be a bit disorientating after many hours, and hallucinations can set in.
This will be Lou's fifth Ultra Distance race ( an Ultra Race is anything over a Marathon Distance), but they do not get any easier. They take quite a toll on your body. Anything from blisters and the obvious sore muscles to nose bleeds and your body can actually go into shock!
So why does she do it? To prove to hersef that she can do anything she puts her mind to, to meet the best kind of people who are all a bit crazy, and to hopefully raise a little money along the way.
