We deliver mobile cancer care. We are dedicated to driving cancer care forward, bringing vital cancer care closer to thousands of patients. Through donations, we build and maintain mobile cancer care units, and together with the NHS, we want to help as many cancer patients as possible.

Story

I am raising money (and awareness) for the charity 'Hope for Tomorrow' who provide mobile cancer treatment locally in East Essex and in 11 other NHS trusts in the country. Although partnered with the NHS, Hope for Tomorrow receive no government funding and rely completely on generosity of supporters. Furthermore, this charity provides  a vital service to those receiving cancer treatment as they can attend the units locally rather than travel to local hospitals which poses a much higher risk.  Each unit can treat 20 people a day and people receive the same care and medications as they would in hospital but in a  more relaxing and familiar environment. Cancer treatment was severely disrupted for some patients but these units have enabled treatment to continue.

One thing I have learnt from 2020 is to seize opportunities as they arise and not put things off.  Therefore, I will be doing a Wing Walk in Upminster in June 2021. Despite being slightly terrified, it will be a life time experience to see the world from a different angle and is a great opportunity to raise money for a fantastic charity.

Hope for Tomorrow was an unfamiliar charity to me until a friend started her cancer treatment at one of the local units in Tiptree Tesco car park and I donated to this wonderful charity.  Jacqui has kindly provided an account of her experience with 'Hope for Tomorrow':

"Firstly, I would just like to take the opportunity to thank Cath for taking on this challenge for such a great cause!

I know it’s a great cause because I’ve be fitted from it!

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Jacqui and I have been friends and for a few years, neighbours with Cath and Rob.

I was diagnosed with stage 4  HER2 positive secondary breast cancer in April 2018. My world fell apart in that instant. I had 6 rounds of chemo at Colchester General. The treatment was brutal and took many months to recover from. Since the chemo finished in Sept of that year, I’ve had on-going treatment with various drugs. This is where Hope for Tomorrow comes in. Thanks to them I have been able to have the majority of this treatment (2 weeks on,  1 week off), on a mobile unit in Tiptree, as opposed to having to travel to the hospital each time. This is much closer to my home in Tollesbury and I find, just not going to the hospital each time helpful. The charity provide the unit itself; maintenance and upkeep of said unit, pool car for the nurses to travel to each location and salary for the driver of the unit.
As with a lot of smaller charities people don’t know they exist until they need/benefit from them.
I can’t tell you how much more bearable my treatment is because of this charity. Because of the locality and the smaller number of patients they can treat it means that a couple of hrs is taken up with the treatment instead of potentially the majority of the day at the hospital.
On behalf of this wonderful charity I really would appreciate and be grateful for any donations you are able to make."

Charities have particularly suffered this year and therefore I will be grateful of any donations you are able to give- however small.  If you decide not to donate, it is still worthwhile to spread awareness of the work that this charity does so I thank you for taking your time to read this.
