Story
In September 2015 my Dad was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia. This is one of many forms of Dementia, the most common being Alzheimer’s disease. The word ‘dementia’ describes a set of symptoms that may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language.
My Dads diagnosis was a life changing moment for my family, our close friends and myself. One of the hardest things is to grieve the loss of a person who is still alive. Alongside other emotions of fear, frustration and despair, the feeling of helplessness outweighs them all.
My dad introduced me to the love of the outdoors and mountain walking. Therefore, this summer, myself and a small group are going to complete the 3 peak challenge in 24 hours in order to raise money for Alzheimer's research UK.
The Three Peaks (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) are the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales. The challenge is to climb each of these three peaks - one after the other in a 24 hour window.
I would be very grateful for any donations for our cause.
