Story
I'm taking on the Tennis-a-thon this July to support families facing dementia. Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Their nurses, called Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing care to families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimers disease. They help people with dementia stay independent for longer, and support the people caring for them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days and the energy to enjoy the good days. They have the time to listen and the knowledge to solve problems, helping families take back control when they are struggling.
My mum has vascular dementia and is now in a care home. My dad had dementia associated with his Parkinsons toward the end of his life. I saw the Tennis-a-thon and decided to try and support Dementia UK by taking part and am grateful that so many friends and members at my tennis club, The Risbygate Club, wanted to join with me to make this a real club effort. So many of us have had or have family or friends who suffer or have suffered from this condition and are happy to support Dementia UK with their vital work.
