Story

Hello Potential Sponsors, (and those who have already sponsored)

PLEASE read the following and note some changes to my original JustGiving Page.

You may well be a little confused by the dates at the beginning of this page and also in the image at the top of the page.  Unfortunately due to Covid-19, the original date for the Trek (November 2020) had to be postponed.  It was then planned to take place in January 2021, but Covid was still causing problems!  Thankfully, now that the risk of contracting the virus has been minimalised due to the success of the vaccination programme, my Trek is now planned for November 2021    -    20th to 26th November to be exact (fingers crossed). The rest of my story is still pretty much the same although over the lockdowns and various restrictions, I have been taking part in a number of sponsored challenges for Maggie's Edinburgh, Breast Cancer Now, and a couple of other cancer charities, (walking hundreds of miles on different terrains), to keep myself active and in shape, in the hope that the Sahara Desert Trek will take place.

The following is my original story, before Covid struck.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am taking part in this Challenge to support the work of Maggie's Centre Edinburgh, who have been (and still are) a great tower of strength to me.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.  The staff at Maggie's Edinburgh were there for me offering support, empathy, and information to help deal with this diagnosis and treatment. They also helped me to face all the other challenges thrown at me at that time.  For this, I am so grateful.

Taking part in this Sahara Challenge will be a proving point to myself as apart from going through cancer, I have also had two hip replacements.  I now love walking, without pain, and have taken part in two Culture Crawls for Maggie's Centre and also the Half MoonWalk which raises awareness of breast cancer.

Maggie's Centres are the most amazing places.  They offer so much support, compassion and understanding to those affected by cancer and their families and friends.

Please donate to my page, if you are able.

Thank you
