Story
Thanks for visiting Georgia's Breastie Besties team fundraising page. Our lovely friend Georgia Carrick was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2018, aged only 38, and endured months of intense chemotherapy. Georgia, a keen runner and committed parkrun Co Event Director, was determined to run through her treatment with her oncologist's support and all of the local running community in Brighton and Hove. Remarkably, she achieved her 100th parkrun midway through her treatment and her first chemo running medal at the Brighton Santa Dash on 8 December 2018. What an inspiration she truly is! She, deservedly, received the best possible news on 13th March...Today, my oncologist told me that I had a complete response to chemo and when they operated 6 weeks ago there was no evidence of cancer. I also appear to have grown some hair (even if it’s not my normal colour 😱). So up next ‘live my dreams’ 😊😊😊 Well and take a billion drugs to keep the cancer away...!
Georgia earned a Good For Age place for London Marathon 2019 after finishing the marathon in a speedy 3:38 in 2017. Despite not being able to compete at her normal race pace this year due to the adverse side-effects of chemotherapy and surgery in January on her health, Georgia was hoping to cover the 26.2 miles of the London Marathon with our friends in an eye catching posse of boobs. Inevitably, in the last couple of days and with just over two weeks left before appearing on the start line, Georgia has made the wise decision not to run. It's too early and her body's not ready (yet) to cover the distance. Bravo G!
Looking ahead, if you see a solitary boob (I was the only one of the team that bought one, d'oh!) plodding along the route for Macmillan that's likely to be me. Give us a shout! I won't be alone all the way. Friends Ramsta, Emma and Brockles will be running also and Georgia's developing our cheer squad too.
