Story
It has been a pretty sh!tty 18 months for us when it comes to cancer. My Aunty died of it, my other Aunty has had breast cancer (and now has a brain tumour), my sister has had breast cancer and my mum, Christine Brear, has bone cancer. Before this, when I was 19, my Dad died of lung cancer.
Cancer is officially a f*cking d!ck. Truly. It is relentless and eats away at people. Lots of cancers are treatable due to the great work and research people do. Bone cancer isn't yet.
If you don't know, bone cancer is a particularly nasty type of cancer. It isn't curable meaning we know that Mum won't ever get truly better from this. It's always going to be there in one form or another.
We found out that she had bone cancer 3 years ago. She has had some really, really tough times over the last few years with treatment- feeling terrible at best and feeling more terrible at worst.
The people at the Weybourne Day Unit, who have been helping and treating her, have been truly amazing.
To give you an indication about what my Mum's like, when she isn't at the Weybourne Unit getting treatment for herself, she is there helping for free, as a volunteer, making people teas and coffees and talking to people who have no one else to talk to.
I've wanted to do something, raise some money, help other people but I literally had no idea how to help, so I have formulated a silly plan. I'm going to have a clean shave and hope that you'll help me raise some money.
This doesn't sound like a great deal but for anyone who knows me, I've had facial hair since I was 13! I got told off in high school for not being clean shaven for school photos, and honestly, I don't think I have ever been clean shaven for at least 20 years!! So that's why I'm going to do it.
For those who know me from 11:FS, you'll know that 99% of my power (like the fabled Samson!) comes from the beard so I am putting the whole 11:FS company at risk here... :)
Please help me raise some money. We need to find a cure for the incurable to help people, like my Mum, not have to go through what she is.
If that's not enough, we will live stream the whole thing on the 19th of December as evidence of the de-bearding. :)
