Story
Thank you very much for visiting my page!
I have just agreed to do a 100k walk along the river Thames in September! People that know me well will remember that I am more the "choosing the escalator over the stairs" kind of guy. Well that's about to change. I hear marathon runners struggle with this walk - and I only have 4 months left to get off my comfy sofa to become a 100k walker... Crazy?! Yes maybe a little! But - here is why:
A very close friend of ours has recently been diagnosed with MSA (multiple system atrophy). The condition is rare and worst of all - there is no known cure. Our friend is a loving father of 2 fantastic young boys; used to be an active mountain climber and had a successful career.
The illness has forced him into early retirement. We can only begin to imagine what the thought of leaving his loving wife and caring sons behind means to the whole family. Despite all those incomprehensible difficulties the whole family recently took off to complete a 100k walk for charity. Under great difficulties due to his condition did he and his family in the end cross the finish line after a week's worth of endurance. What an inspirational guy!
So this is why I have decided to challenge myself to walk 100k (in approx 24 consecutive hours day and night) for the South Bucks Hospice. The team at SBH are helping our friend with alternative treatments and pain relief. But most importantly they offer palliative care and will be there for them in the most difficult time yet to come.
Any donations large or small are equally welcome!
