Story

The Great North Woodlands Run in aid of St Teresa's Hospice #runthegrounds

Hi there and thanks for visiting my Just Giving page for St Teresa's Hospice.

I was all set to run the 2020 Great North Run for St Teresas Hospice and then in March the pause button was pressed for us all.

During this most uncertain of times I have continued to work from home as a Counsellor/Family Support & Bereavement Worker for the Family Support Team where I have worked as a member of staff for the last eight years. Being able to listen and actively assist carers, bereaved people and patients to focus on ways to aid their mental health and resilience levels during lockdown has been a great privilege.

During this time the official confirmation came through that the GNR had been cancelled for this year. This event raises thousands of pounds for St Teresa's Hospice every year at a time where our fundraising has already been decimated because of the pandemic.

Due to this it got me thinking about ways that I could still do something on the actual day linked to both the Great North Run and St Teresa's Hospice.

I aim to run the whole GNR half marathon distance of 13.1 miles around the gardens and grounds of The Woodlands, home of St Teresa's Hospice in Darlington on the day of what would have been GNR 2020, Sunday September 13th starting at 10am.

The Woodlands' grounds are a beautiful, well maintained, peaceful haven for guests and visitors and also fairly large but running a half marathon around them will equate to nearly 50 laps!

Although there won’t be any Red Arrows fly passes this year over the Tyne Bridge or Woodland Road for that matter to spur me on I would be SO grateful for any donations as during these testing times it will really make a difference to the work that St Teresas Hospice is striving to continue to deliver to our local community at the most difficult of times in people lives.

Due to the ongoing visitor restrictions at the Hospice we cannot have spectators but please keep an eye on the Hospice's Facebook page on the day for regular updates including photos and videos of the run. You can even send me messages of support to keep me going!

Check out www.facebook.com/stteresashospice for details in advance.

Thanks once again.    #runthegrounds
