Cheers for having a look at my fundraising page.
Back in October 2019 my Mother-in-law Elma was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. The news has had a devastating effect on the whole family.
After the initial shock, we are coming to terms with the situation and trying to be positive.
I was lucky enough to win my running club's place for the London Marathon 2020 the day after the diagnosis and immediately I said I would use it to fundraise for a dementia charity.
We have found out so much information recently about Alzheimer's. Although a cure is not currently available, there is so much research happening it is only a matter of time before there is one.
It maybe too late for a cure to help my Mother-in-law but we hope as a family that any funds raised will help other people and their families. So they don't have to live with and suffer from Alzheimer's and dementia.
Any donation large or small will be grateful appreciated, THANK YOU!
The date for the London Marathon 2020 had been changed from April to October due to the Corona Virus.
I still went out and ran a solo marathon locally on what would’ve been marathon day.
The October date was postponed and the 2020 version of the London Marathon was then made into a virtual run. I ran this round the streets of Teesside with some friends.
I've now found out I will be running the marathon for real down in London on the 24th April 2022.
So another date change by VLM!!! I’ll now be running the London Marathon on the 2nd October 2022. I will run this race at some point!
I’ll continue to train for the marathon and continue fundraising for this amazing charity.
To keep the training interesting and fun, I’m thinking up and doing some (crazy) challenges along the way.
Races/Events completed so far since the postponed London Marathon 2020 - Eagles Summer Solstice Ultra (June 20), Big Pink Dress Run for Change Challenge (July 20), House to House Relay Challenge (Aug 20), Virtual GNR (Sept 20), Virtual London Marathon (Oct 20), Big Pink Dress Be Kind Challenge (Nov 20), Hardmoors 30 (April 21), Hardmoors 110 Relay (May 21) Endure24 in a pair (July 21) London Landmarks Half Marathon, dressed as Baby Spice! (August 21), Hardmoors Fryupdale Half (Oct 21) Hardmoors 30 (Jan 22) Sunderland 10k dressed in an inflatable orange morph suit (May 22) Pier to Pier (May 22), Endure24 Leeds Solo - 50 miles (July 22)
I’m also looking at other fundraising ideas. In February 21, I organised a local run/walk clue hunting challenge which was well received and supported. I hope to do some more similar challenges in the coming months. In July 21, I organised a sweepstake for the Football Euro Championships 2020 (now 2021). I ended up doing 2 sweeps, it was that popular.
In February 22, I joined a ARUK walking challenge ‘Walk 28 miles in February’ and achieved over 50 miles.
On the 27th Feb 22, I joined over 200 ARUK runners and walkers doing a challenge to do ‘2000 miles in a day’ to raise funds for ARUK. I ran 7.4 miles although hoped to do more but struggling with the after effects of having Covid.
Throughout Feb 22 I left some ‘Random Act of Crochet Kindness’ heart cards out whilst out training to hopefully raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK. It’s been lovely to receive donations and kind message from strangers.
In June 22 I left some more ‘Random Act of Crochet Kindness’ hearts out and again received generous donations and many touching messages.
