Story
Hello Everyone,
Firstly thank you so much for visiting my page, your support is appreciated beyond words.
I have decided to take on the ridiculously bonkers challenge of running the Marathon des Sables in April 2021. 'MDS' is approximately 256km race across 6 days in the Saharan desert. It is known as 'the toughest foot race on earth', whilst running competitors will be battling temperatures of 40-50 degrees whilst trekking over continuous sand dunes. If that doesn't sound hard enough, the race is completely self sufficient meaning I will be responsible for not only getting myself around the course but also for carrying every single piece of equipment with me (this includes all food, kit and sleeping equipment for the entirety of the 6 days).
Growing up I was 'lucky' to be born into a home in which I had a warm meal on the table / food and drink whenever I desired. I had free health care (NHS), I was blessed with fantastic education year after year. I was given every opportunity in life to succeed. Every day I ask myself how would life be if I was 'unlucky' and was born into a family in the 3rd world??
Did you know, that over half of the worlds children are not so lucky and they are born suffering in severe poverty, lack of healthcare and education every single day. Why do we still live in a world where this is acceptable? And why am I more worthy of the life I have led over these poor children in poverty? The answer is simply - I AM NOT MORE WORTHY. We are all equally worthy and these children should be given the same opportunities, the same start to try and build a sustainable life for them and their future generations.
Only we can help give them, and it is our responsibility to ensure these innocent children grow up with the best chance ever!
I will be pushing my body to extremes, I will feel the heat, the pain, the fear, the dehydration and the starvation that these kids face every single day, but at the end of the race I get to fly home - these children do not and we need to change this. We need to give them hope.
Thank you for your generosity, thank you for helping build hope for children.
