Story
Born on 9 September 1990, Anja Barnacott, was our cherished
daughter, sister, and a friend to many. Popular, intellectual, and beautiful
both inside and out, Anja was the life and soul of the party. With an
infectious smile that could light up even the brightest of rooms, Anja loved nothing more than organising events with her friends, spending time with her family, studying and playing the drums. At weekends, Anja would put on her favourite “standing shoes” (she said they weren’t useful for much else), sparkly dress, MAC make-up and paint the town her favourite colour – pink.
Sadly, at the age of 19 and after a hard-fought battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Anja passed away.
During her illness, Anja was supported unwaveringly by CLIC Sargent, who arranged a trip to London to see the sights, a meal at Gordon Ramseys restaurant and a show. She also had financial assistance as wasn’t able to continue with her part time job at Topman. She also received beauty products as part of a Look Good Feel Good scheme.
Furthermore, when sister Malgosia was also diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma less than two years after Anja’s death, CLIC Sargent again provided support in the form of arranging for taxis to take her
to and from university, financial help so she could pay for her accommodation and bills and continue her studies in Leeds, she also used this to buy clothes for her smaller frame. Malgosia, along with some other teenagers undergoing Cancer treatment sailed round part of the country with Ellen McArthur. All of these things gave the girls positive experiences and above all independence and the ability to lead as normal a life as possible.
