Story
This November we are attempting to spend three consecutive nights sleeping on the summits of some of the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales. All of this is to raise money for the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF), set up in memory of Lt John Thornton who was tragically killed in Afghanistan in 2008, to support young people in their personal development and achieving their ambitions.
We are friends and colleagues at Go Ape Moors Valley where the JTYAF are our nominated charity. Our challenge is an adaption of the 3 sleeps challenge, initially devised and completed by extreme sleeper Phoebe Smith, and involves sleeping on the summits of the traditional 3 peaks mountains. For our version we will be sleeping on the summits of Aonach Beag (4,049ft), Helvellyn (3,117ft) and Glyder Fawr (3,284ft). These peaks are all in the same ranges as the traditional summits and the routes that we will be taking to the top will include ridges and scrambling.
