Story
Hi,
My name is Ali Clements and I will be cycling and running the length of the UK (from John O' Groats to Land's End). I will be taking on this challenge in memory of my dear friend Joey, who we sadly and suddenly lost last June. I chose this challenge because Joey would have laughed and called me 'stupid', like he did many other times when I talked about taking on marathons and other sports challenges. I can only imagine his face now if I told him about this challenge. My final memory of Joey was the Friday morning we sadly lost him; we were out for a run and he was being his usual advice-giving and witty self. I will cherish this memory and it will push me through this challenge.
The Challenge itself is going to be a tough one and I'm hoping I will stay injury-free so I can execute it the way I want to. The plan is to start at John O' Groats on Monday 2nd May and finish up in Land's End, 13 days later on Saturday 14th May. I will be cycling and running the route and the plan is to cycle one day and then run the next and so on. In the saddle, I will cycle around 100 miles a day and on foot, I will be running approximately a marathon. I'm very grateful to have my Dad driving the support vehicle for the challenge and we will be staying in a campervan for the duration. All in all, the total miles will be around 930, covered in 13 days!
Losing Joey was the hardest thing I have been through in my life.
I think about Joey the most and feel closest to him when I'm out running by myself. After Joey's passing, the support shown by everyone has been incredible and just shows how loved he was by all so it is only right I complete a challenge which matches such a big and charming personality.
The money raised from this challenge will be going into the pot for Inspire Suffolk, which we started in memory of Joey and we have already raised £13,000. It would be amazing to add another chunk to that pot this year, any donations will be greatly appreciated and will mean a lot to me.
