Story
Since 2005, I have volunteered with Samaritans of Pendle, Burnley, Craven & Rossendale since as a listener on the telephones.
Over the years I have undertaken a number of roles within the branch that have allowed myself to support our callers in many other ways, including organising the branches activities on local train stations; January Brew Monday, 24/7 Talk to us and awareness days at Burnley football (2018 and 2019). In the last few months I have taken on the role of Outreach for our branch and will look at different ways we as a branch can engage with the local community to raise awareness of the services Samaritans can offer.
Other achievements include joining the Prison team at Rochdale & Oldham district Samaritans helping to support a small team of listeners at Buckley Hall working with the safer custody team.
In recent years, I have used my listening skills with Andy’s Man Club, attending a local group in Hebden Bridge (June 2018) and more recently as a facilitator with the newly setup Burnley group at Turf Moor (May 2022). I also help out with Mens Den in Colne (April 2019) on a regular basis.
Note: All monies raised will be going to the Samaritans central charity.
