Story

Hi all / Peace be on you,

My name is Zakariyya. I'm five years old and about to begin year 1 at primary school. My school is in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and I love reading and playing! On Saturday, I'll be walking another WHOLE mile to raise money for a really amaaaaazing charity. It's called Forget Me Not Children and helps to put BIG smiles on the faces of children who the doctors say don't have long to live and their families.

My cousins and I (in the picture) already walked one mile a few months ago to the hospice, where the children live. They were amazing and sooo brave. As we came close to the hospice, many of the children were waiting outside, clapping, cheering and smiling with their parents and nurses. They thanked us for raising money for them, but we felt really grateful for being able to help (a little bit) so many brave and amazing children. My legs really ached when I reached the end of my walk (not my cousins' legs, though; they're bigger than me), but I didn't ask my Dad to put me on his shoulders.

The original target was £100. This is a lot of money, but you were all so kind that you donated ***£1,000***. Now I'm going with my Dad and little brother (he'll be on my Dad's shoulders) to the Lake District where I will walk another mile. Hundreds of people are also taking part and each person will be raising money for different charities.

I'm really excited about doing it again! Especially after meeting the brilliant children who the money you donate will help. At the start of the walk, we will all be saying a prayer for all of the children at the hospice. It's important to remember and pray for people who are hurting. Actually, I say a prayer every time I hear an ambulance.

Here's some more about the charity I will be walking for:

'Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice supports children with life shortening conditions and their families in West Yorkshire. They support children and families in many different ways to make their lives just a little bit easier. From offering respite to hydrotherapy, music therapy, neonatal care, counselling or bereavement support; their care team supports the whole family both at their purpose built hospice in Huddersfield as well in families own homes. They need to raise £3.8million each year with just 6% of this coming from government sources.

Thank you very much!

(Sorry if I made any spelling mistakes. My Dad was supposed to write it up nicely!)
