Story
Last year it felt like we climbed every hill in Dorset! I can confirm the hills were alive with the Sound of Music! The Jurassic Coast Quest took place last July where we hiked 50 miles and climbed just under 9000ft of elevation. in two days.
It has become a bit of a tradition here At Stocksigns that every year we take on a new challenge for a charity. That time has come again.
After two failed dates, we are hoping that this time it will be our third time lucky and that we will make it to Slovenia! and finally be able to take on the mighty Mt Triglav!
Slovenia's largest mountain stands at 9396ft, just shy of 3,000m in elevation. We aim to climb the mountain over a two day period spending the night in a mountain refuge at 2,600m before making the final push on day two.
Day 1
We will be walking around 20km, but all of it is uphill! The highest mountain in the UK is 4412ft in elevation, we will be hiking 5036ft overnight on the mountainside. If anyone has hiked Ben Nevis, it is big, but this is a lot bigger!
Day 2
We leave the mountain hut just after dawn to make the summit ascent. From the mountain hut, the summit is about a 2.5km scramble, the majority of it is close to vertical. With huge pins driven deep into the rock. This enables novice climbers to scale reasonably technical sections with little to no risk. We will hook on/hook off the steel wire remaining connected at all times. In the worst case, if we fall, it will only be a couple of meters to the last pin.!
Our chosen charity for this year is The Children’s Trust. The UK’s leading charity for children with injury. Based in Tadworth (local to our Stocksigns HQ) the Trust runs a range of specialist care, education and therapy services for children and young people from across the UK and the UK’s largest rehabilitation centre for children with acquired brain injury (ABI)
