Story
Thanks for stopping by my Just Giving Page, I really appreciate you taking the time to come by and read my story.
Some of you may be aware that my brother works for Alzheimer’s Research UK, indeed you may have even seen him on the TV from time to time. Perhaps on the radio? No? He has the same voice as me. It’s a bit weird. Anyway, I made the commitment to Parry Junior that I would endeavor to raise a bit of cash for ARUK every couple years. So here I am again, my third outing sporting the ARUK colours and I am returning to Prudential’s Ride London 100 mile event at the end of July.
This is a cause close to my heart. My family has personal experience of dementia, I’ve seen the affect it can have and I know so many people who have seen family and friends affected by the onset of dementia. This thing just does not discriminate. It can affect anyone form any background, education, lifestyle or status. There are no treatments to stop it, while some can help people to better live with their symptoms there is nothing available to slow or halt the disease. Research into dementia only receives around 3% of the government’s medical research budget - that’s where we step in, where you come in, where we can collectively help make a little difference.
Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading research charity aiming to defeat dementia. They power world class studies that give us the best hope of defeating dementia sooner. Your donations will help with work that focuses on prevention, treatment and ultimately a cure. Take a look at the video below to find out a bit more.

This year we are going bigger and better. I will be riding along with six of my fellow Lycra loving mates – collectively known as the Dengie Cycling Club – who enjoy rolling around the Essex countryside on two wheels of a weekend. Be under no illusion though, this will be tough for us. Essex is flat like the pancake. The Ride London route not so much, at least by our standards!
I'm proud to be able to do this for ARUK every couple of years and I truly appreciate anything that you can donate; 84p of every £1 you spend goes directly into research and helps people to fight dementia – it really will make a difference.
Anything you can spare.
Thank you.
Simon
