Story
On 29th May 2017 our whole world stopped when we heard the news that our beloved Roger had passed away. That tragically, following a most recent episode of depression, he felt that he could not continue and ended his life. He had bravely battled with depression his whole life but the final episode was just too impossible to cope with.
As is often the case with depression, many people were shocked to hear that Roger had ever suffered with it. He was someone that made others feel happy and lived to help others, whilst struggling on with this horrendous illness himself. He was our hero - the best dad, husband, brother, grandfather and friend to so many people. It is hard to comprehend a life without him in it and ironically it will be a darker place for it.
Mental health is sadly still so stigmatised and not spoken about enough, with far too many people suffering in silence, which is why we want to raise money for those charities which help with raising awareness and supporting individuals.
According to statistics, 6581 people died from suicide in 2014 in the UK & Ireland. It is the most common killer in men aged 20-49 and one in fifteen people will attempt suicide in their lifetime. These are shocking statistics and more needs to be done to change things, so that less individuals and families have to go through the pain and devastation that suicide brings.
Mind are a charity which provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.
