Story

I have set up this page and another one as I wish to raise money for two charities.

Age Concern Hassocks, who I have been working with on a voluntary basis since I retired, driving the mini bus for those in the area who need to be collected and taken back home so they can attend the day centre lunch club and when they go on out on outings. This centre is a local independent charity. Details of what they do can be found on their website www.achassocks.co.uk

Also Marie Curie, who proved to be a fantastic support during the latter stages of my first wife’s terminal cancer.  In particular
the Nurse Gweno, who we still keep in correspondence with some 26 years after Ann’s passing which gives some indication of the type of people they employ and the help and support she gave me and all the family in the last few days of Ann’s illness. They do such good work in helping families when these situations
happen.

My challenge is to cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats just to prove I can still do it before I reach the grand old age of 70 next year. I will not be trying to beat any records but doing this 1000 mile trip at a fairly leisurely pace with rest days built into the schedule.

I will set off on the 13th May after my wife Lynne has taken me and the bike down to Lands End. Then the plan is to fly home from Scotland on the 16th June with Bike returning by courier.

I will put details of my progress and some photographs on Facebook and any messages of encouragement will be greatly appreciated to help me on my way.

About the charity

We offer a freshly cooked three-course meal every weekday and transport to bring members to the Centre and home again. Membership is free. On site we provide a coffee shop , hairdressers, chiropody and a charity shop. Exercises, outings and activities take place throughout the year.
