Kinder Challenge - a 23km charity walk
Fundraising for Mummy's Star
Fundraising for Mummy's Star
We are the Powsers Mountaineering Club situated in Glossop on the NW edge of the Peak District National Park. Each year we complete a CHARITY WALK in the summer to support a national or local charity.
This year we have chosen Mummy's Star, a local charity and the only one in the UK and Ireland dedicated to supporting women and their families diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy or within twelve months of giving birth.
Our charity walk is a challenging 23km circuit over the Kinder Scout plateau ascending 981m (3300ft) in total. We have chosen this route to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Kinder Mass Trespass of 24th April 1932.
Mummy's Star was founded in 2013 by Pete Wallroth. His wife was diagnosed with breast cancer during her pregnancy and sadly died two months after giving birth to their second child.
Can you imagine what it must be like for women and their
families to be faced with some of the distressing decisions and traumas these circumstances cause? For example, do you proceed with cancer treatment whilst pregnant or delay until after the birth?
Mummy's Star helps families to meet others in a similar position, offer small grants to relieve some financial burden, give support to partners and wider family, promote awareness and support research.
Your donation means that women diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy and beyond are able to reach Mummy's Star's and the specialised support they offer.
We are extremely proud to support Mummy's Star's vital work and we hope you can help us to do this. Thank you!
