Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It is four years now since my last radiotherapy session at the Royal Marsden and the words “life goes on” have continued poignancy in a way that makes me smile each and every day.
To mark this milestone, my incredible family – Jill, Sam, Annie and Molly – have foolishly agreed to join me in taking part in this year’s Great North Run. They are all very different, very special people and a huge part of what keeps me sane and alive.
Running has become an important part of my life. It provided a positive focus for my recovery and continues to help me relax, stay healthy and appreciate the world around me. My enthusiasm is not necessarily embraced by Jill and ‘the kids’ and so I am very moved, a little inspired and quite astonished, that we are all planning to do this together. For some of us, it will be the biggest sporting challenge ever taken and an enormous stretch! I have no doubt that my stoic northern exterior will be reduced to that of a tearful, bumbling idiot when we all finish on the sea front in South Shields on Sunday September 11th.
We are running to raise awareness and funds for the charity I work for, the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (www.chect.org.uk). This charity helps
babies, children and families impacted by a relatively rare cancer of the eye called retinoblastoma. The impact of a cancer diagnosis at any stage in life can be overwhelming but a cancer that affects babies and very young children is particularly devastating.
We are a small team that provides support and a range of services that make a real difference to the lives of a very clearly defined community that would otherwise be lost in the generic world of cancer support and the bigger cancer charities. Your generous support and donations will be received with huge thanks and will be put to very good use!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thank You!
