Story
Last year I ran a gaming marathon for Macmillan, to raise funds and awareness. Since last year had a good reception I decided that I would attempt to repeat the fundraiser.
Macmillan do great work supporting the friends and family of those affected by cancer. I've had a few people in my life that have suffered through the condition, and i've lost a few as well. Its a terrible blow to so many people, but affects everyone in their own unique way. Some people live with the condition, an ever present reminder, for some its a sudden and rapid decline, stripping them of energy, stealing their ability to do the things they like, and ultimatly force them to pay the ultimate price.
The friends and family of those who are suffering with cancer also deal in a variety of ways. whilst trying to stay strong, they can be collapsing inside, unable to process whats happening to a loved one, and feeling powerless to help.
The terrible terminal diagnosis can be most damaging, theres no right answer, no script to follow. Its a wrecking ball.
Macmillan help everyone. A vital life line and support to those most in need at a difficult time.
This is why I wanted to give something back. Charities live on their donations and support, and without that help, so many people would struggle to find the support that they so desperatly need.
So I tried to think of what I can do. I'm not a sporty or an arty person, but i can do gaming. Most people would think that as a gamer, a 24 hour marathon would be easy, but a solid 24 hours of gaming can be a feat of endurance.
So thats what i'll be doing, 24 hours of gaming, from a time that i've not decided on just yet, to the exact same time the following day. Moving only as biology dictates, with the support of my loving wife and little girl who will help make sure I stay on task. Anyone who donates is more than welcome to suggest differant games or activities as i will be on Twitch the whole time with a link so people can check in. Last year one supporter pledged with the stipulation that i never wear my stetson down to London again.
Please give generously. If you've read this far, then thats your own feat of endurance.
Thanks, and lets beat last year.
