Story
At noon on Saturday the 1st September 2018 I embarked on my biggest personal challenge - taking part in the G24 race which is a 24 hour race at Glenmore near Aviemore. I ran solo for 24 hours and wanted to reach a target of 100 miles. By 11:25am on Sunday 2nd September I reached the 100th mile. This is a 24hr Challenge right? so I managed to shuffle my aching body round for a further 35mins to reach 101.36 miles. Job done and 3 days later, my body is still adjusting to the rigors of the race.
This challenge however was nothing in comparison to what Doddie and his family are facing but it sets out my support to his charity foundation, which is raising funds to aid research into the causes of Motor Neurone Disease and potential cures.
Doddie has been an inspiration to me for over 25 years now as he had just obtained his HND in Agric from Edinburgh when I was commencing my one in SAC Aberdeen. At that point he had been playing representative age-grade rugby for Scotland and had received his first Cap of 61 with the National Senior Squad. (Unfortunately my 20 year rugby career cannot be compared to Doddie's but I like to think that there is a connection there within the farming and rugby families).
