Story

2 Teams of 16 (One student and one staff) from Northumbria University will be taking on the toughest challenge yet for the Northumbria Sport Foundation.

We will be attempting the 3 Peaks 24 Hour Challenge, climbing Ben Nevis, Snowden and Scaffell Pike (the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales) in 24 hours over the May Bank Holiday. This challenge will see us walk roughly 24 miles in 24 hours and climb a total of 3407m.

The Northumbria Sport Foundation (reg. 1111675) is Northumbria Sport’s partner charity. It harnesses the enterprise and leadership skills of Northumbria University students and staff, by enabling them to raise funds and deliver sport programmes for members of the community, both in the North East and Internationally. The Foundation enables students and the community to enhance their potential through sport in line with Northumbria Sport’s themes of ‘Engage, Inspire and Achieve’.

The Northumbria Sport Foundation harnesses sport’s power to deliver positive change, with the direct support of Northumbria University students and staff. It is committed to improving the personal development, health and well-being of disadvantaged people across the North East in order to make a lasting difference to their lives. It also benefits students by giving them an opportunity to engage in fundraising activities and work within their local community.

Our current projects are seeing us work with BME communities in Fenham and Gateshead working on Boxing, self-defence and self-esteem. High quality after school sport sessions in the West End of Newcastle delivering Football Netball and Multi-Skills and supporting Northern Frontrunners an exclusive running group helping LGBT members of the community get involved in sport with their winter Strength and Conditioning meaning they are able to train all year round.

In the coming months we hope to add to the projects we are currently able to offer and any money raised from the 3 Peaks will help to make this possible.
