In early 2011 our lovely Dad was diagnosed with vascular dementia, as a family it was devastating new's. We watched a man who entertained hundreds every night as an entertainer, a very talented musician who owned a stables & was riding horses for over 40 year's suddenly forgetting how to tie his shoelaces & we all noticed little thing's here & there.  Sadly Dad's dementia progressed very quickly & nothing prepared us for how heart breaking watching someone you love so much deteriorate & forget who we were.  Now Dad has been fighting this cruel disease with everything he has, in November 2015 thing's took a really bad turn & Dad caught pneumonia & we all had to prepare ourselves for losing him. We lost our Dad a long time ago to this awful disease but to never see him again was a pain I can never explain & I was not ready for that to happen.

Somehow being the incredibly strong man Dad is he came through it, but at a price & he has been bed ridden ever since & the only movement he has is in his hands.  Dad's wishes were to remain at home so our Mum cares for him 24/7 along with the help of carer's & very sadly now Marie Curie hospice nurse's. The money raised is going towards raising awareness & paying for treatment for dementia patient's so that maybe just one day a world without dementia might be achievable. It's hard to be positive in our situation but on the day off our walk it will be a day full of laugh's & great energy.  Around 225,000 people develop dementia every year – that’s the equivalent to one person every three minutes. This September and October Memory Walks will be taking place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to raise money for a world without dementia. Arm in arm, step by step and pound by pound, we will get there. Once you donate, Just Giving will send your money directly to the Alzheimer's Society.
