Story
On 30th August 2021 we lost our dear and much loved Grandad at 92 years of age to the awful illness that is cancer.
The only thing that made his loss remotely bearable was how comfortable his final days were and how well cared for he was by the whole team at St Lukes. From domestics to doctors, we owe the whole team so much gratitude - they all played a part.
My sister worked for St Lukes for several years and I also spent many happy times at the hospice visiting my grandad and they truly make it a 'home from home' environment. The place holds a very special place in my heart. But what I was shocked to learn on this journey, is that they only get 25% NHS funding and so the bulk of their revenue is charity.
PLEASE donate whatever you can, big or small, to keep this incredible place funded. One of the last things grandad said to me was how well he had been looked after by St Lukes and how he wanted to donate them some money - let's do him proud. I am completing the 10k Night Strider event. 5k will be walked alone (well with Dexter the dog and probably the pram too!) and the second 5k will be with a team walking from Hillsborough to Loxley and back again, on 23rd of October. I know it is not exactly a marathon, but I am doing whatever I can to help raise awareness and funds whilst slowly building my own fitness back up again in the process!
THANK YOU XXX #teamallan #teamgrandad
