Story
In November 2019 my friend's nephew, Freddie, at only 6 years old, was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Ewing Sarcoma. It is a brutal disease that creates tumours in the bone and soft tissue that can spread to anywhere in the body very quickly and sadly has a very poor prognosis. Freddie has endured months of chemo, countless blood and platelet transfusions, injections and radiotherapy and suffered nasty side effects. Earlier this year a scan showed the treatment Freddie received had been successful, however, Ewing Sarcoma has an infamous reputation of recurrence. It is also a cancer that is seriously under-funded and under-researched. Like many people, I had never heard of it before or of the charity, The Bone Cancer Research Trust, which depends on donations for life saving research and for making progress in improving care and support for those who have bone cancer.
I will be running the London Marathon on October 2nd 2022 to raise money for The Bone Cancer Research Trust/Freddies Future so that children like Freddie have a chance at fighting this awful disease. Please donate to support this fantastic charity and also help motivate me as I have never attempted a marathon before and have lots of training to do!
Thank you so much!
The Bone Cancer Research Trust is dedicated to saving lives & improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer. Despite being small, they fund more research projects exploring primary bone cancer than any other organisation. Other large UK cancer research charities do not prioritise bone cancer patients, in 2019 just 0.028% of their research spend went to bone cancer – not even close to 1%!Last year alone, Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research - to save lives!
