Story

Me & David Pringle are challenging ourselves to walk over fire to raise money for Cerebral Palsy Scotland. One child in every 500 has cerebral palsy. That means, every year, 150 babies born in Scotland will continue to live with this condition into adulthood. There is no cure, but therapy can influence how the brain develops and is the most important treatment for cerebral palsy. The specialist team of Bobath physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists as Cerebral Palsy Scotland work closely together using a personalised approach so that each person benefits from their combined expertise. We've been on the receiving side of their amazing support and here's a bit about our story:

Our son Jack was born with 3 different brain malformations leading to medication resistant epilepsy requiring brain surgery to disconnect half of his brain at 14 weeks. As a result of the surgery Jack has numerous disibilities including Hemiplegia - meaning he is weaker on one side - a form of cerebral palsy. This was all during lock down and daunting for parents of 2 toddlers in what was already a lonely world.

We're not sure how we came across CP Scotland, probably down the rabbit hole of googling that comes with any new diagnosis but we're so grateful we did! We've had an intense therapy block when we first got in contact with the lovely Sandra and Leslie and were partway through our second with the amazing Sandra, lesley & Claire and we've already seen some amazing progress in Jack after as little as 4 sessions! We've attended the baby group with Claire, Leen and Petra. We've spoken to Anna, Isla, Alex, Milly and lots of other lovely staff who's name we haven't quite got to remember yet... the general level of support we've received has been super. I've also met a new mum friend and a child similar to Jack who we've agreed to meet for playdates with which is something I've never managed before! Jack's 2 now and he's thriving - every day he amazes us and makes everyone's life that bit happier and I've no doubt CP Scotland have been a big part of helping us and him get where he is today.

Every year we look at how we can give back to a charity that have supported us and we're looking to kick this year off with the firewalk! If you would like to and most importantly can afford to, we would be grateful for any donations ❤️
