Story
Thank you for visiting our Just Giving page!
We will be running the London Marathon on 21st April 2024 for The Institute of Cancer Research. All three of us decided we wanted to take on this challenge during our amazing mum's journey through living with breast cancer. Mum was diagnosed in December 2022 and has since had surgery and radiotherapy, as well as ongoing hormone therapy to treat it. Through this time she has stayed unbelievably strong, and despite facing constant uncertainty and stress she has continued to be a rock of support to family and friends, as well as staying determined to carry on with work as a doctor in an emotionally intense job. Everyone who knows mum will have their own testament of her incredible character, and will know how she treats everyone around her with compassion, thoughtfulness, and relentless love. We are so proud of her and so grateful for the care and treatment she has received that has helped her to get through the last 9 months.
Most of us will have to experience the impact of cancer throughout our lives, either personally or through loved ones. The fear, uncertainty and helplessness that this brings is unparalleled and something that no one should have to go through. We will always be grateful that we still have our mum, but of course so many people are not so fortunate. We want to do what we can to support organisations who are at the forefront of developing new cancer treatments, so that less people have to experience the many horrible impacts of cancer.
The Institute of Cancer Research are world leaders in identifying cancer genes and developing new cancer treatments. Cancer treatment has advanced significantly in recent years and there are constantly exciting new possibilities on the horizon which have the potential to save and improve the lives of millions of people. The work of ICR is unbelievably important and you can read more about it here: https://www.icr.ac.uk/about-us
Thank you to all our incredible family and friends for all the support you have given mum and the rest of us, we are so lucky. We'll be keeping you posted on some fundraising events soon! If you are able to give any donations we would be massively grateful :).
Love Joel, Harry and Emily x
