Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In two weeks I will attempt to run the Brighton Marathon (10 April). This is a big deal for me. I am not a runner and I have not found training easy. And anyone that knows me will know that I don’t like putting myself out there, especially in public or on social media! However, last year, just before my 50th birthday, I started out on a journey, inspired and jolted into action after reading Theodore Roosevelt’s ‘Woman in the Arena’. Running this marathon is me ‘daring greatly’ and striving to lead a life more valiantly.
I have been moved and inspired to share my marathon undertaking in this public arena by Ruby-Tuesday, the courageous 13-year-old daughter of a much-loved old school friend of mine. I want to use Ruby’s story to raise awareness and money for Brain Tumour Research, a charity massively underfunded and publicly underrepresented.
Ruby was diagnosed with a brain tumour last April, the day after her 13th birthday and is now undergoing 18 months of chemotherapy. She is the strongest and bravest young person I know – find out more about Ruby’s story here - https://youtu.be/g6M3CiNpXSw.
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.
I’ve left fundraising a little late but if I only manage to raise a little but spread awareness a lot, I’ll be happy.
Love
