As the New Year dawns, so too does a new challenge for current London-to-Paris World Record holder Jonathan Parker. Jonathan (or JP to most) is seeking to raise money again for the charity Cyclists Fighting Cancer, which amongst other amazing things, makes bespoke bicycles for children affected by cancer. JP hopes to raise money by yet again attempting to break a world record; this time it will be in the Taklamakan desert in China.  JP aims to raise 10,000 GBP (46,000 QAR) for the charity during the attempt across the 'Desert of Death'.

The road, also known as Highway 1, is 341 miles long and is the only one through the desert. The meaning of 'Taklamakan' desert is "you can get in, but you’re not coming out". Conditions are somewhat treacherous, previous record attempts have documented the extreme conditions that can be expected. Temperatures can range from -30 degrees at night, to over 40 degrees during the day.

The first chaps to complete the crossing on bicycles (big kudos to them!), described it as the worst two days of their lives and said on their page “Lobby unfortunately made the mistake of wearing a facemask to fend off the morning ice, only to find that it still formed between face and mask, gluing the mask onto his beard. It took all day for the thing to unfreeze so he could take it off, which made eating pretty difficult”. That sounds like fun doesn’t it? It's not just the temperatures that will threaten the success of this attempt, the winds can also hit up to 150mph; promising JP at least a decent facial exfoliation!

The current world record holder is extreme motorcycle racer and TV celebrity, Guy Martin, who was filmed as part of a UK Channel 4 television documentary called "Our Guy in China" and set a time of 28 hours, 17 minutes.

Similar to the previous record for London to Paris; JP will fund the expenses of the attempt himself. The target window for the attempt is late March or early April 2019; the date will be announced closer to the attempt.

JP is extremely passionate about the charity having lost both parents and two uncles to cancer, and having been through a rehabilitation process similar to some of the children the charity helps following a serious accident that led to losing 8 pints of blood and breaking both legs and an arm.

Every single penny donated will go directly the charity Cyclists Fighting Cancer. JP would be humbled by any donation, big or small, that you can afford to give. Donating takes so very little time but makes such a huge impact on the life of the children the charity supports.

جلب لنا 2019 عام جديد و فرصه لتحدي جديد. يسعى جوناثان باركر ( المعروف بـ"جي بي")  إلى جمع 10000 جنيه استرليني (46000 ريال قطري) للأطفال المصابين بالسرطان في بريطانيا، من خلال التعاون مع الجمعية الخيرية "راكبي الدراجات لمكافحة السرطان" لمحاولة تسجيل رقم قياسي عالمي جديد لركوب الدراجات بشكل منفرد عبر صحراء تاكلامكان في الصين المعروفه بإسم صحراء
الموت.

تتضمن هذه المحاولة ركوب الدراجات بشكل منفرد لمسافة 300 ميل (480 كم) بدون توقف في ظروف صعبة حيث تتراوح درجات الحرارة بين:- 30 درجة مئوية في الليل إلى أكثر من 40 درجة في النهار. وسرعة الرياح تؤدي إلى التسبب بعواصف رملية تصل سرعتها إلى 150 ميل في الساعة.

لقد أخبرنا الأبطال الأوائل الذين خاضوا هذه التجربة: "لقد ارتكب لوبي لسوء الحظ خطأ بارتدائه قناع الوجه ليحمي وجهه من جليد الصباح ، حيث ادى القناع إلى تجمع الجليد على وجهه، مما أدى إلى إلتصاق لحيته بالقناع. لقد امضى النهار كله في محاولة إذابة الجليد و انتزاع القناع عن وجهه، الأمر الذي أدى إلى صعوبة تناول الطعام."

يسعى جوناثان باركر إلى تحطيم الرقم القياسي الذي توصل إليه جاي مارتن متسابق الدراجات الشهير و شخصيه تلفزيونيه شهيره. جوناثان لم يقم بإي سباق منذ 2017 إثر اصابته في حادث تزلج  ،حيث
استدعى علاجه تركيب بعض اللوحات المعدنيه و 15 مسمارا لتثبيتهم،لذا فإن التدريب للاستعداد لهذا الحدث يمثل تحديًا كبيرًا حيث ستضيف برودة الصحراء مزيدًا من التحدي.

سيتكفل حوناثان بتمويل المصاريف بنفسه مثل ما تكفل بها من قبل عندما قام بركوب الدراجة من لندن إلى باريس، لذلك فان كل تبرع سوف يذهب ريعه إلى عمل الخير. تكاليف هذه الرحلة سوف تتصاعد نتيجة لنقل الطاقم المشرف إلى الصين ، لذلك إذا كنت على استعداد للمساهمه حتى بمبلغ صغير فإن المساعدة ستكون موضع تقدير كبير.

سيكون الجمعية الخيرية "راكبي الدراجات لمكافحة السرطان" و جوناثان باركر في غاية الامتنان و الشكر إذا كنت تستطيع المساهمة في جمع التبرعات لمساعدة هؤلاء الأطفال. تقول الأسطورة المحلية أنه بمجرد دخولك إلى الصحراء فإنك لن تخرج أبداً ، لذا يرجى التبرع قبل بدء جوناثان المحاولة!
