Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my page. Donating through JustGiving is safe and secure.
Many of my friends and family know my story but for those of you who don’t here’s, as brief as I can, outline of why I am doing this.
I was diagnosed with 3 brain tumours in May 2020 (in the first lockdown). After having the first one removed because it was literally so big it was crushing my brain, I suffered with a bleed on the brain resulting in a stroke. I was paralysed from the neck down. My future looked pretty grim. I spent almost 6 months in different hospitals and in a rehabilitation unit. Before coming home I was told I’d never walk again.
I finally came home in April last year, where I was fully dependent on my carers and my husband. I was having to be hoisted in a sling to be able to get out of bed, having bed baths, using bed pans for toileting or hoisted onto a commode, sleeping in a hospital bed downstairs in my living room.
My rehabilitation continued at home and with much hard work and determination I’ve now managed to begin to take steps using a walker.
Unfortunately in October last year I had a fall and broke my hip, resulting in a full hip replacement 🙄 This set me back hugely. It still didn’t deter me to keep pushing.
I’ve decided to attempt to complete a half marathon (around my house with a combination of walking, marching and using the stairs) over the month of March which will be quite a challenge for me as I’m still learning to walk and can only walk a short distance until I need a rest.
I’ll keep everyone fully updated with my progress as I’ve had to tie my Fitbit around my ankle. It doesn’t register movement on my wrist as my arms don’t move as they’re stabilising me.
Thank you for reading this. Any donations will be enormously appreciated, no matter how big or small x
