Story

May 2018 - After receiving a kind donation of £500 from my employer I can safely close this just giving page and step back and feel so grateful for eveyone's support, their encouragement and huge generosity.

Thank you one and all - So very much appreciated. Namaste :-)

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

After all of the fundraising; boot sales, a fantastic Race Night, huge support from his family, friends, colleagues and kind folks also affected in some way by Alzheimer's, it was time for Darren to head off and earn the sponsorship.

On 4th November he set off for Nepal and after a monumental trek he and the other members of his group reached Everest Base Camp - 14th November 2017. The Base Camp is a heady 17,598ft up and we are all so proud that he's done it.

He took up a photo of his Dad and placed it at the top of the world in his memory.

Although he's reached the target, after what he's achieved we hope that the figure will rise further to give the Alzheimer's Society as much as possible.

If you have already been lovely enough to donate, a huge thanks for your kindness and please share this page as widely as you can,

If you have been inspired to donate - every single penny counts and is really appreciated.

Thank you in advance :-)

***************************************

Very sadly my Dad, Roly Witts, lost his battle with Alzheimer's in February this year.

Before the illness took its hold he was a kind, caring, loving father and gramps to five grand children and one great granddaughter and he would do anything for his family and friends.

He was in active service with the Royal Hampshires and was in the Malayan conflict 1955-56.  He played football for Basingstoke Town FC. He worked at Ely Lilly's for over 30 years and played football for their team too.

As the disease progressed and his memory faded he no longer recognised his family and this was particularly sad for my Mum as they had been married for over 56 years.

The Alzheimer's Society has suggested a number of ways to raise money for their much needed research into this cruel illness and I have chosen to trek to Everest Base Camp which will take 19 days.

So, in Dad's memory I'll be heading off on 4th November 2017 and in between, family, friends and I will be fundraising as hard as we can.

As many of you will already know we have over 18 car boot sales under our belts now only possible through the generous donations of family, friends and colleagues - our stock hasn't once run low. A race night is being kindly arranged for 8th September. It has been really humbling to have such great support.  Thank you all.

This is such a hideous disease affecting so many and their families. I want to help the Alzheimer's Society in their mission to find a cure so that in the future other families won't have to suffer it.

Anything that you can donate is so gratefully appreciated.and sharing this page as wide as possible will help massively in achieving our goal.
