Story
I was delighted when Durham Wildlife Trust offered me a place at this year’s Great North Run. It’s a great charity that is doing really important work to protect and conserve wildlife from Tees to Tyne. That work is more vital than ever as we try to address the huge challenges posed by the ecological emergency that we all face.
However, I feel a bit cheeky asking people for sponsorship for taking part in the Great North Run, because I run at the event every year anyway! So, to add a little spice, I’m going to take on a treble that will definitely take me out of my comfort zone.
First up is the world’s biggest half marathon on Sunday 11th September. Then, six days later, I will attempt to complete the Lochaber 80km Trail Ultra up in the Scottish Highlands. Assuming that I’m still in one piece after that, I will round things off by heading to beautiful Northumberland for the Kielder Marathon weekend, running the first leg for the ‘Sedgefield Specials’ in the Kielder Run-Bike-Run on Saturday 1st October and then tackling the full Kielder Marathon the following day. After that, I might have a little lie down.
So, to summarise, over 22 days, I’ll attempt a half marathon, an ultra marathon and a marathon (plus a cheeky 11km warm up the previous afternoon).
Surely that’s worth a donation to help Durham Wildlife Trust! 😊
