Story
Thank you very much for your donations in support of the research in Child Health in North Wales! Your donations are already supporting a cutting-edge research to improve the diagnosis of meningitis in newborn babies. More work is in the pipeline focusing on high quality child health research across North Wales.
I am a consultant paediatrician at the Maelor Hospital, Wrexham, where I have been working for well over 10 years. I have seen for myself that public involvement is the key to improving health outcomes and I am proud of the strong sense of connection our communities in North Wales have with our NHS.
This ultra-long bicycle ride from Wrexham to Cambridge and back will be some test of physical and mental endurance. To have enough day light it will have to be done around summer solstice. I hope that you will share the occasion with me through updates on JustGiving page.
The plan is to cycle to Cambridge on the 20th of June 2021 (Sunday), leaving Wrexham with the robin's dawn song. At a balanced pace of 20 km/h, I shouldn't need more than 14 - 15 hours of cycling. My current plan is to take 60 min breaks every 70 km. All being well, I should be in Cambridge before 10 pm for a rendezvous with my wife and a hearty meal with our friends.
The return leg will have to be the Sunday after, to avoid heavy goods traffic.
Thank you again for your donations to Child Health Research in North Wales!
