After being inspired by watching Captain Tom walk the length of his garden last year, then learning that he enjoyed the seaside, we thought what better challenge than combining the two. So, our aim for Captain Tom’s 100 challenge is to walk 100 lengths of Sidmouth seafront - starting from the Port Royal along to the Belmont Hotel. We hope to walk 20 lengths a day between 29th April and 3rd May inclusive. We will be wearing our Brain Tumour Research t-shirts and have a collecting tin in hand. Charlotte will take part when able from her wheelchair and maybe accomplish a few steps along the way, so if you see us, give us a wave and if you can, spare a few pennies.
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic effect on charities, with the cancellation of thousands of events and the loss of billions in income. At a time when vulnerable members of society need them most, charities have had to cut services, furlough staff and some have even shut down. Captain Tom stepped up to help, taking on his famous walk to support the NHS Covid-19 appeal and inspiring millions to donate to the cause. I will be celebrating the extraordinary spirit of Captain Tom my way and help my chosen charity.
