Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Having been a sea-kayaker for a good few years now, and a supporter of the RNLI, over recent years I have wanted to do 'something' to raise funds for them. However, as a paddler I felt that I needed to take myself out of my happy place and do something which would really put me out. So, as these wonderful people would come out to sea to get me, then I thought that I should go to them. I am planning to do an endurance walk between my house in Kinbuck (just north of Dunblane) and my nearest RNLI lifeboat station, which is at South Queensferry, a distance of about 38 miles. The tough side, apart from the walking, which I really don't like doing, is that I will be PULLING MY SEA KAYAK.
I will be doing this walk on my own, with support some parts of the way. This is not a big event with lots of people, it is just me.
I will be doing this over a three day period starting Friday 17th May 19. and intend to use cycle routes as much as I can. ie Kinbuck via Dunblane, Bridge of Allan, Alloa, Clackmannan, West Fife Way, Dunfermline, crossing the Forth Road Bridge and arriving at the lifeboat station on the afternoon of Sunday 19th May 19.
I am not doing this in the name of a loved one but for all those who have already given services and some their lives, and those who are prepared to do so and who are always at the end of our telephones, radios, flares PLBs etc.
I also feel that I have to do this before I get much older (I will be 64 at the time of the kayak walk),and am currently under the instruction of a trainer in order to be prepared for this endurance event. I am putting my heart and soul into it as it will be a one-off for me, and am therefore hoping to raise as much as I possibly can. I would therefore be truly grateful if you could support me in my efforts by giving what you can through this fundraising page. Thank you. Alexis (and my boat Mykayakym)
