Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In January 2018, a wonderful friend, Anna, passed away at the age of 39. She had an extremely rare form of cancer and could not be cured. She received outstanding care and support from the Eden Valley Hospice (EVH) in the final months of her life. In addition, the Hospice provided fabulous support to Anna's family throughout this most difficult of times.
I first met Anna 15 years ago, when we were both working in a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school, in North East England. We were helping to care for and educate young people with autism spectrum disorders. Anna had a caring nature, a fantastic sense of humour and was a great friend to many fortunate to know her.
Sadly, there are many other adults and children who have life limiting conditions requiring Hospice care. It costs over 4 million pounds each year to run the charity and continue offering care and support to patients and their families. The Hospice only receives approximately 20% of this money from the NHS, meaning more than 3 million additional pounds must be raised annually! It costs around 750 pounds for one patient to stay for one day in the Hospice!
I've put together a 2670 mile (4300km) continuous route to walk throughout Great Britain. I'll start at John O'Groats, in northern Scotland, mid-April 2023 and hope to finish outside Buckingham Palace, London, by mid-August. The route takes in the Scottish National Trail, The Pennine Way, The Wales Coast Path and the South West Coast Path, including all connecting sections.
I'm doing the challenge in Anna's memory and as a means of saying thank you to the Eden Valley Hospice. I'd be extremely grateful for any donations towards this fantastic cause.
