Homebound Ultra Treadmill 85K (HUT85) is an indoor event I’ve created in replace of my cancelled race and to help raise funds for The Running Charity on 25th April 2020 starting at 0700 GMT.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many spring races have been cancelled including my next race MIUT 85, an 85 kilometre trail race across the Island of Madeira. I’m running 85k in my living room on a treadmill in it’s place, to follow the UK government’s social distancing rules to overcome COVID-19. I saw this as an opportunity to raise funds for The Running Charity - an organisation harnessing the benefits of running to help young people experiencing homelessness tap into the resilience that a running routine teaches. They are also running a campaign now to ensure these kids and young adults have enough food and a safe place to self-isolate.
I will be doing virtual “Aid Stations” on Instagram Live every 45 minutes with top notch volunteers, varying from ultra runners, Alex Eagle - CEO of The Running Charity and my employer Camden Town Brewery. These will last 2 to 5 minute with the purpose to hear how folks are staying positive in this unprecedented time and to raise awareness of The Running Charity’s work and this campaign. My goal is to run 85k in sub 10 hours and to raise £850 or MORE for The Running Charity.
