We fund long-term, sustainable research to find a cure for brain tumours

Story

This summer we are asking you to join us to#kickforacure as we raise awareness and funds for Brain Tumour Research.

  • We are playing 1 continuous 5 a side football match which will last for 24 hours (that is 1440 minutes, not your regular 90 minutes!) kindly hosted by Sutton High School
  • We kick off on Saturday 30th July at 12:30pm and ends Sunday 31st July at 12.30pm. So just to be clear, for 24hrs the ball will not stop moving!
  • We aim to keep the game going by using rolling substitutes throughout the duration of the 24 hours and we would love for you to be a part of it - whether that’s playing for an hour (or 24!), helping us raise awareness or just sending us a lot of love!

To take part in the game please contact us on the 07958 245358 or sam.suriakumar@gmail.com. There will be a registration fee of £20 per player.

100% of your donations will go to the charity Brain Tumour Research so we ask you to donate and help us kick for a cure!

So why are we doing this? Well, here’s my story… my name is Sam - a 36 year old Christian, musician, entrepreneur, Gooner, Bret Hitman Hart & A.R.Rahman enthusiast, but most importantly husband to my beautiful wife and father to two incredible girls - Chindhu, Avaana & Arya, the loves of my life. 2 years ago our lives were turned upside down and changed forever...

On Tuesday 4th Feb 2020, I left work early and jumped on the Underground Northern Line to get myself home as I wasn't quite feeling myself. I closed my eyes to get some rest - but the next 48 hours were a complete blank to me. I had collapsed on the tube agter having a cluster of grand mal seizures which I had never had before. Thanks to some amazing members of the public, TFL staff and paramedics I ended up at St George’s hospital. A few scans and tests later I was told that I had a brain tumour. To be honest the moment I heard the words "Brain Tumour" it felt like life stopped and I was in a dark tunnel with no light - I couldn't speak, hear, understand or comprehend what was going on.

2 years on and it still terrifies me… in the last year alone I know of 3 people who have sadly passed away - all under 40, all within 2 years of their diagnosis. Brad, Amani, Tom - never forgotten.

Life is so beautiful… it’s worth fighting for. So I ask you to help us and the Brain Tumour Research with your donations to help them get closer to a cure for this deadly disease.

Just to give you some basic information on the unwelcome guest in my head! Brain tumours are indiscriminate; they can affect anyone at any age. What’s more, they kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer...yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.

Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this. They are the only national charity in the UK that is dedicated to raising funds for continuous and sustainable scientific research into brain tumours. You can help us fund the fight into what scientists are calling the last battleground against cancer.

From the bottom of my heart thank you for taking the time to read my story.

Much love, Sam
