Story

Your donations have already made a big difference!

Thank you for your fantastic donations of $1,889.81 (£1,159.00).

We agreed priorities with staff, and from January 2011 have already spent $1,352.35.  This is what you made possible:

* Children's pens, toys $22.10
  (prizes for children for making decorations for children's ward)
* Nutrition training $10.00
  (snacks for children and staff whilst attending g
ardening training)
* Laminator and plastic sheets $68.75
  (
children's decorations, child-friendly signs, infection notices)
* Infection control $319.50
  (paint and cleaning kit for deep clean of wards)
* Ward equipment $277.00
  (blood pressure cuffs, scales, ambubags, xray light boxes)
* Ward equipment $275.00
  (lockable cabinet for medical equipment, Medicine ward)
* Ward equipment $155.00
  (lockable cabinet for trauma equipment, Emergency Room)
* Solar power $225.00

(new batteries for Obstetrics, Medicine and Emergency Room)

We also used the funds to get started on the new playground next to the children's ward.  This was such a success that VSO's education programme then agreed to fund the whole project, meaning your donations could be spent as above.

TOTAL:  $1,352.35

Over the next months we will work with staff to spend the rest of your donations ($537.46, plus the balance from Gift Aid).  Our priority is improving care for mothers and children. For example, we will buy small items of equipment for obstetrics, and help made the new children's ward more child-friendly.

Our aim as VSO volunteers remains to share our skills, working alongside local staff.  These small amounts of money helped us spend less time worrying about how to fund initiatives, and much more time sharing our skills and trying to change lives!

Thanks again,

Alison (nursing volunteer) & Oly (management volunteer)
