Hi there generous friend! Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. I ran/stumbled 26.2 miles through London with 10 elephants (tiny crocheted ones) on my back in 3 hours and 54 minutes (placing 9999th) to raise money for Care for the Wild! Every £500 we raise can rescue an elephant that has been snared, injured or orphaned.

On 13th April I ran the London Marathon 2014 for Care for the Wild International as part of their Last Chance for Elephants campaign. As a Care for the Wild team we will be running for the lives of African elephants. 

This is the Last Chance for Elephants: In Africa we are losing one of these beautiful creatures every 12 minutes - every day - 365 days a year. At that rate elephants will be extinct from the wild in around 20 years. In 2011, poaching levels in Africa were at their highest levels since records began.

The demand for ivory is increasing, the tusks of a single adult elephant can be worth more than ten times the average annual income in many African countries. Ivory is the new conflict resource, providing income for terrorist groups such as the Lord's Resistance Army, and fuelling violent conflicts across the continent.

It is a tragedy that this noble animal must die for its ivory - a human status symbol and trinket. Do we want future generations to grow up in a world without elephants?

Care for the Wild both rehabilitates orphaned elephants and runs anti-poaching patrols, as well as lobbying for international governments to do more about the illegal wildlife trade.
