Story
MND is a debilitating neurological condition that affects nerves that control voluntary muscles. They gradually stop working until the body stops functioning - while the mind is still active. MND has a prognosis of two to five years, and kills five people a day in the UK alone. There is no cure.
Rather than sitting still, Duncan's doing something about it.
In 2008 a crew of friends and supporters from all around the globe cycled from Amsterdam to London to get out there, get active, enjoy the ride and most importantly raise funds for MND research to help those diagnosed with MND in the future.
Ride for MND '08 was so successful that this year we're doing it again!
Ride for MND '09 is on 23-24 May 2009 starting in London, destination Amsterdam.
MND Research has been progressing rapidly and the identification of Riluzole as a medication to extend lifespan by three to six months has thrown up many clues and avenues for research into how this disease is acquired and how pharmaceuticals can be used to treat, slow and finally halt the progression of symptoms.
In New Zealand we're supporting the Motor Neurone Disease Association in their campaign to get funding for Riluzole. In the rest of the world we're tagging our fundraising for further MND research.
Our website (www.rideformnd.com) has loads of info about the ride and links to all of our online fundraising pages in various currencies, our Facebook group, plus places to go for more information about MND. Thanks for your support!
