Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit the first ever Flybox Charity Fly Auction Page. Every month our goal will be to raise money for good causes which affect us all, through doing what we love most: fly-tying!
This month we are raising money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Sadly, this illness claimed the life Haydyn Edwards, the brother of David Edwards (owner of Bugbond) and good friend of Flybox.
Here are a few words from David Edwards who picked our first chosen charity:
Haydn Edwards was a hidden artist who chose to exhibit his talent in wielding a welding torch to renovate classic cars. He’d tackle anything from a Lamborghini to a Jaguar XK140 but the true constant through his life was the Mini… the iconic car designed by Sir Alec Issigonis. Back in 2011 Haydn became unwell and his business had to close. He was diagnosed with a blood related cancer and underwent chemotherapy and then had a stem cell transplant toward the end of 2011. Sadly by the end of January he was back in hospital and passed away peacefully on the 13 February 2012 at the age of 47 from post-transplant complications.
I am grateful to Ian Christie for agreeing that the first charity to benefit from his NOT FOR PROFIT –Charity Fly Event will be Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research in Haydn’s memory. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to all the fly tyers, not only those from the BUG-BOND Team who have given generously to support this cause. Few if any involved in this event knew Haydn personally, he was my brother and my first fishing partner… there is much I would like to say about him but the pain of his loss still rubs raw and I can’t, save that he bore his illness with great stoicism and I am proud of him.
Thank you for supporting the online auctions for the fishing fly collections. If you have missed out on getting ‘that box of fishing flies’ but still wish to donate, please do, I would be grateful and in the long run this event will play a part in saving someone’s life.
