Story

Sky Sports Fanzone United v Newcastle Utd Womens Football Club

In Aid of Sir Bobby Robson Foundation

Main Sponsor: CDM Recruitment Limited

Saturday 13th August 2011

Hi and thank you for visiting our Justgiving fundraising page. We really hope you will donate to our event, which is raising money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

Sky Sports Fanzone Commentators are joining forces to become... "Fanzone United", yes thats right, the people that can talk a good game are putting their boots on and all for the fantastic charity that is the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. Please see further down for more details on the SBR Foundation and it's great work.

Being a Newcastle United legend, Fanzone United wanted to play a football game against a team that Sir Bobby would have approved of and who better than Bobby's Girls themselves...Newcastle United Womens Football Club (NUWFC).

The NUWFC team and coaches are all amateurs / volunteers.  The ladies receive no financial support from the main NUFC club and have no club sponsor.

They need to raise their own funds to enable them to train and play at the very top of their chosen sport.  It costs each player at least £250 per season to sign and play for NUWFC. That money is used by the NUWFC Committee to buy the players kit and training equipment, hire training and playing facilities at The University of Northumbria, hire and fuel mini buses for their away matches and pay for the wide range of other things needed to run a football team.

Please visit www.nuwfc.com to support and make a donation to the team.

So the challenge is on. Fanzone Utd v NUWFC which will take place at Imperial College Sports Ground, Harlington on Saturday 13th August 2011.

Will the combination of the Premier League club's Fanzone commentators reign supreme or will the fat lads get a pasting off the Geordie lasses?

Please donate now with messages of support for both teams and please give us a score predition to make it even more fun and interesting!!!

A massive thank you goes to CDM Recruitment Limited for being our event main sponsor and taking care of the costs. Additional thanks goes to Alpha & Omega Logistics Limited for kindly sponsoring the Fanzone United team. The support both companies have given is greatly appreciated by all of the event management team.

The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation:

Since its launch in March 2008, the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation has raised £3.5 million to help find more effective treatments for cancer.  It funds projects within the Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust, which directly benefit cancer patients from across the north east and Cumbria.

In addition to equipping the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care in Newcastle, the charity has also funded a specialist clinical research nurse and research doctor within the Sir Bobby Centre.

It has funded leukaemia laboratory research equipment and contributed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary’s teenage cancer unit in Newcastle.

It has also enhanced a children’s waiting area, jointly funded a patient ‘quiet and information area’ with help from Macmillan Cancer Support and part funded a complementary therapy programme providing symptom relief for cancer patients – all at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care.

It is also working with Newcastle University and has purchased an ultra-compact cyclotron which will help with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.  The cyclotron costs in excess of £500,000 and is only the second of its type in the world and the first in Europe.
