Story
I am raising money for the charity VSO which offers a great chance to make a positive impact on the lives of people who have not had the same opportunities and privileges as myself. After finishing my A-Levels, in July I went to live in Austria where I trained twice daily at a professional table tennis club as well as teaching English part time. Having spent this time training hard to reach my personal goals, I now feel I want to work as a part of a team with a different set of challenges in a less privileged environment. Having lost my grandad earlier in the year has made me think about how precious life is and how important it is to take advantage of every opportunity for new experiences, especially where this can have a positive impact on others.
Originally, I was heading to the Philippines but after changes, I will be going to Sierra Leone and working towards the goals of education, health and livelihoods. 70% of the population are below the poverty line and 70% of the youth are unemployed. The life expectancy is just 48.
The 24 hour Table Tennis Marathon will involve playing against different people from 9am on Friday 3rd January till 9am on 4th January at Meopham Table Tennis Hut. If you can come along and be an opponent, that would be great and don’t worry, I won’t ask you to do the 3am to 4am shift!
Thank you for donating! Your money is going to a really good cause.
