2009 Endurance ChallengeI realise that I’m extremely fortunate to have been given every opportunity to participate in sport by my parents growing up and I have to thank them for giving me the self - believe in my ability that allowed me to overcome obstacles such as Asthma and knee surgery following an accident. Being able to race Ironman Hawaii this year after three years of trying to qualify really is a dream come true. No doubt the 2009 season will be an exciting one for me! By dedicating it to the Argus Appeal I hope to raise money for the charity providing people less fortunate than myself with opportunities to lead a better life. The Argus Appeal strikes me as the perfect charity to support since it gives money where it is most needed and does not just focus on a single cause. Having lived in Brighton for the best part of five years, I want to support a local charity.
The eventsKnow as the 'birthday set' to some professional triathletes, I completed a set of 100x100m swimming at my local pool, totalling 10km of swimming on the 10th of May - that was 3 hours of swimming!
10 consecutive reps of Ditchling beacon is my second challenge for 2009. While this hill is known (and feared?) by local cyclist, for those who don't know it: It is 1.4 km long with an average gradient of 10%. Come and watch me kill the hill (or the hill kill me? ) on Saturday the 13th of June, starting a 10am.
I will race the London Triathlon on the 2nd of August: With a 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike and 10 km run, the distances sound comparatively tame but I will race in the competitive sub-2:30h wave.
My ultimate event for 2009 are the World Ironman championships in Kona, Hawaii in October. This is a 2.4 mile sea swim, a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run. The Hawaii Ironman has been held annually since 1978 and is still the most eminent triathlon competition worldwide; just to be able to compete is a major accolade.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Argus Appeal gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
