Story
We have finished! At 2.15pm on June 29th, after 10 days, 3 punctures, 2 new tyres and 1 new spoke we cycled into Land's End. 10 days and 984.4 miles in memory of Grandad.
Why we did it.......
My grandfather (Dad's father) died on Christmas Eve last year, 12 days after falling from his bicycle on an icy hill in nearby Eastleach. He was taken to the intensive care unit of Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham and until his death from head injuries, was looked after by the most dedicated and impressive group of specialist doctors and nurses.
Dad and I wanted to cycle together - after my A levels - in Grandad's memory and to take the opportunity to raise some money for two charities. My charity (this page) is the inspirational Future Hope charity that I came across when I was at the Dragon School. Future Hope was set up over eighteen years ago to provide a home, education, medical aid, and opportunity to some of the children of Calcutta, India who found themselves living on the streets of the city. Sport and rugby in particular, has always played a major role in Future Hope so I am hoping to raise money for their next major project, the Future Hope Sports Academy.
The second charity (log onto www.justgiving.com/tombarry) is the wonderful Selly Oak Hospital, to ensure that it continues to have the complex but costly equipment so others might have the same care as my Grandad.
We hope you can make a contribution, of whatever amount, via Justgiving. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor us. Both charities get your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. So please sponsor me now!
